In the definition of Economics, we said that human beings have a permanent feeling that something is missing in order to be happy. These UNLIMITED NEEDS encourage and motivate us to carry out activities throughout the day. Although we feel satisfied at certain moments—for example, after finishing a meal—after a while we feel the same need again, or different needs.
We must not confuse the product—for example, a pair of glasses—with the need it satisfies—for example, having good eyesight. We can usually identify the name of the need by asking: “What did I use this product for?” The answer is usually a verb.
INDIVIDUAL NEEDS are a subjective feeling that something is missing, together with the desire to satisfy it. They are usually classified as primary needs (essential for survival) and secondary needs (security, social acceptance, recognition and self-fulfilment).
In places where most people’s primary needs are covered, other collective needs often arise. These must be met through collective organisations or public authorities. An ORGANISED COMMUNITY reaches agreements to satisfy these needs together, since individuals could not achieve this on their own. For example, creating a justice system, a public healthcare system or a state education system benefits all citizens, not only those who have been victims of a crime, are suffering from an illness or are learning about Economics. For instance, I would like more people to learn about eating a healthy diet; otherwise, our hospitals will become even more overcrowded with sick people.
COLLECTIVE NEEDS are needs that cannot be satisfied individually and explain the creation of the “Democratic Welfare State” (such as our country).

3. To avoid your hands from slipping when performing on the trapeze in a circus show.
4. To dye your hair white when dressing up as a witch for a Halloween party.
< We compare our answers as a whole class and observe that some of these solutions require funding from a public institution, such as the local council or the government. >
6.4. Critically assess the economic problem of scarce resources and the need to make choices, as well as the principles of social interaction from an economic perspective, applying this knowledge to deal effectively with challenges.
